A virtual meeting with Mayor Gord Milson and the City of West Kelowna’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Mr. Paul Gipps, took place on February 17, 2021. This meeting was requested by the Gellatly Bay Goats Peak Community Association (GBGPCA) to help introduce our association and was hosted by GBGPCA Executive Volunteers David Patterson and Nicole Waidman.
While the meeting was introductory in nature the GBGPCA was able to learn:
- The Mayor is pleased to see our association has formed and is impressed with the 150+ members we currently boast.
- The letters provided on behalf of the GBGPCA these past months have been well received and we are encouraged to continue with this form of communication when applicable.
- The Mayor and City host an annual neighbourhood association meeting, however, this was halted due the pandemic. They are currently investigating the option of resurrecting this initiative and once confirmed our group will be invited to participate.
- The City will add our contact information into their local notice database for Community Associations to help communicate upcoming initiatives that our feedback may be requested on.
- The Crown & Thieves winery has an ALR designation which meant a different procedure and notice process was followed.
- Additional details on the planned round-about for Gellatly/Carrington and walking trail to Boucherie/Gellatly will be released soon.
- The City will be hosting virtual consultation sessions reviewing the Draft 2021 Budget and Draft Financial Plan for 2021 – 2025. Our members are included to take part in this consultation by completing the feedback form or signing-up for one of two online Question and Answer sessions being offered. More details can be found here.
- Both the Mayor and Mr. Gipps will make themselves available for any future AGM’s our association holds.
- The Mayor has recently relocated into our neighbourhood!
We were able to commend the Mayor on his knowledge of the Gellatly Village OCP released in 2017 and urged both Council and the City to keep this top of mind.
Going forward our association will continue to monitor the CityView Portal, council agendas, and local signage postings to help identify any new activities of interest to our neighbourhood. If you are aware of any impending activities that should be investigated further by the GBGPCA please be sure to contact us.
