Your many, many letters to city council had a large impact, and city council sent the public hearing bylaw amendments back to staff to develop a mechanism that would automatically trigger a public hearing.
At the May 9th city council meeting, council voted in favour of a trigger mechanism of eight written submissions or a petition containing residents’ signatures from eight unique addresses. It was also noted that council reserved the right to call a public hearing on any development application regardless of the number of written submissions.
The responsibility remains with West Kelowna residents to voice their concerns through a written submission to city council prior to first reading. If you become aware of a development application of concern please let your neighbours, as well as us, know as soon as possible, so that the trigger of a public hearing can be met.
